( DAY 11 ) - 15/4 PAH-REEEEE
cheryl :
BONJOUR !
The ferry took us across the English Channel in a one-and-a-half hour journey. inside there were lounges with seats and couches for us to rest, a bar n food stand, international foodcourt, convenience store, money changer and arcade! so cool right? first time i've been on board this type of ferry. we reached paris at about 8, where we took the metro to the Louvre Museum.
the funniest thing happened when we came out of the metro la! the museum is directly opposite the metro exit, and to get to it u must cross a road right, and gang gang hao there was a marathon in progress and zillions of runners on the very road that we had to cross! there was no other way to get to the museum.. and so difficult to cross! from the looks of it, there was a whole line of people that wanted to cross the road too but were trying to figure out how. so after a long time of feeling paiseh we sucked up the guts to just chiong across when we saw a gap in the runners haha!
the Louvre museum was simply huge. it was the place where they shot the Da Vinci Code. there was the huge glass pyramid which looked so stunning, and inside the museum there was the inverted pyramid too. which kept reminding us of the movie. we saw eygptian aritfacts, roman sculptures, and the Mona Lisa! i still dunno why the Mona Lisa is so bloody famous, Krystle says it's because she has no eyebrows... anyway we didn't have the chance to finish touring the whole museum because of the lack of time and my hunger. so off we went to Notre Dame.
when we got off the metro near Notre Dame, there was this pet market right outside the exit selling so many kinds of flora and fauna! there were lots of birds, hamsters, rabbits, mice and even chinchillas. krystle spotted a rabbit that looked exactly like the one Xiaxue got for her friend's birthday, and it was UBER adorable. she wanted to buy it and bring it home! but sadly the hassle and cost of bringing it back to s'pore is too much.
the Notre Dame cathedral was huge and the famous stained glass windows were breathtaking. no picture can compare to seeing the actual thing.. at the cathedral u can light a candle to pray for 2euros.
then we walked around the street next to Notre Dame hunting for crepes, which i insisted on trying. finally bought a ham-mushroom-cheese crepe which was YUMMY (and huge) and krys got a nutella-banana one. u must try the crepes if u ever go to paris! after that we went to Louis Vuitton to get the bags krys promised to help her cousin buy. then we headed to the Eiffel Tower.
we wanted to go up to the Eiffel Tower only when it got dark cos it's so much more beautiful. and the sun would only set at 8 so we had time to kill. after getting some icecream, we went to the park nearby the Tower, and many people were just sitting or lying on the grass (which looked v clean), enjoying the uncharacteristic warm weather. so cool can! in singapore only the bangalas lie on the grass lor.. so we lay on the grass too cos we were damn tired from the lousy coach ride and promptly fell asleep. the best part about just relaxing there was the view of the Eiffel Tower, right in front of us so grand and majestic. we could still hardly believe we were looking at the real thing.
we had dinner in a nice cafe by the street where krys had the set meal (egg mayo for starters, chicken, and gigantic chocolate mousse) and i had fab french onion soup! we ordered a one-litre bottle of mineral water that cost 6.50euro ($13) which krys still cannot get over haha. eventually we made it to the Eiffel Tower just as the sun set and we took the elevator to the second floor, cos to the summit would take much longer cos the queue was long. the view from the Eiffel Tower was just beautiful. indescribable. we could see the river and all the buildings to the end of the horizon.. and at night the Eiffel Tower lights up with megawatt brilliance! the lights keep flashing so it looks as if the whole tower is sparkling. of course we took lotsa pictures =)
after the Eiffel Tower there wasn't much time so we went directly back to the metro and returned to where the coach had dropped us off in the morning. and that's the end of our Paris adventure!
